Cub Scout Round Up

Are you ready to start the 2012-2013 Scouting year or know someone who wants to join Cub Scouts for the  first time?  Our Cub Scout Round Up will be Wednesday, September 5th at 6:30 pm in the Holy Family Social Hall.

We will be starting this year's Tiger Den with a new group of first graders.  If you have a first grade boy joining Cub Scouts, we will need a Den Leader for the group.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Enjoy the rest of summer and see you soon.

Let Summer Begin.....

WOW, what an incredible year for Pack 461.  The social hall was filled with the enthusiasm of 41 incredible Cub Scouts, leaders and families.  We enjoyed pack meetings together, awards ceremonies and fun activities for all of the boys.  None of these things would have been possible without the hard work of our leaders who gave freely of their time to ensure we all had a successful year.

As you prepare for summer vacations remember the rocket launch, rain gutter regatta and scout camp.  The dates and times are posted on this blog.

We will not be meeting weekly over the summer but will resume the fun in September when school starts again. Watch for an email in late August with the details.  We hope everyone will return in the Fall ready to earn their next Cub Scout rank.

Have a wonderful summer and God Bless,

Ann Wakefield

Arrow of Light Ceremony March 28th

On March 28th, our Webelos II Cub Scouts will receive their Arrow of Light award. The Arrow of Light award is the highest award available to Cub Scouts. It requires the Scout to have earned the Webelos Scout badge and eight activity badges. In addition to the skill and activity requirements of the preceding ranks, the Arrow of Light requires Scouts to learn the Scout Promise and Scout Law, and visit one meeting and one activity of a Boy Scout troop, in preparation for advancing to the Boy Scouts. Earning the Arrow of Light will help earn many of the requirements for the lower ranks of the Boy Scouts. The Arrow of Light award is the only Cub Scout award that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform.

Prior to the ceremony, the Order of the Arrow will be performing at the pack meeting.  The Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. It uses American Indian-styled traditions and ceremonies to bestow recognition on scouts selected by their peers as best exemplifying the ideals of Scouting.

Please plan on a little extra time for the pack meeting to accommodate the awards and special performance.

Cake Auction

Don't forget to sign up to bring a cake to the cake auction on February 15th.  This is one of the biggest fund raising events for our Pack.  You can email Bridget Ortiz to sign up or ask questions.

Your support of this event helps pay for camp, belt loops, the Pine Wood Derby and many other activities.  The Wakefield Family is feeling pretty competitive this year so bring your "A" game to the auction.

Calendar Changes for January and February

There are a couple of changes to the January and February calendar.

JANUARY 22nd - Pinewood Derby practice run will be held from 3-4 pm on Sunday in the Social Hall. This is OPTIONAL. There will be no trial runs the day of the race, so if you want to run your car on the track prior to the big race plan to attend the practice on Sunday.

JANUARY 25th - The meeting start time has changed for the derby.  Doors will open at 5:30 pm for check-in (weighing cars etc) and the races will  begin promptly at 6:15 pm.  With so many racers, we need to get an early start.  Don't forget we will be serving hot dogs, chips and dessert if you don't have time for dinner before the derby.

FEBRUARY 15th - The Blue and Gold Banquet is moving to Wednesday, February 15th (Ash Wednesday is Feb. 22).  Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 pm followed by the cake auction.  More information about the cake auction to follow.  It is one of the biggest fund raisers for our pack.

FEBRUARY 22nd - Regular den meeting at 6:30 pm
