EXIT DRILLS IN THE HOME

Have you done your homework? Exit drills in the home can help prepare your family for an emergency.  Most fires occur at night, when people are least prepared.  Home fires can become a disaster if you and your family are not familiar with how to escape an emergency.

Here are a few tips
  • Prepare a fire escape plan
  • Install and maintain smoke detectors
  • Practice exit drills in the home regularly
  • Examine your home for fire hazards and take steps to prevent a fire before it occurs

The link below provides additional information to help prepare your family's emergency plan.

October Core Value

The core value for the month of October is Responsibility.  According to the scouting program helps, this means

“Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves. Responsibility is fulfilling our duty to help others and take care of ourselves. It is behaving safely and appropriately without having to be told.”

One of the things you can do to emphasize this core value is to work on a belt loop or pin at home such as the  Good Manners Belt Loop.  The requirements are below as well as a link to a thank you note template for your scout.

Good Manners Belt Loop
Complete these three requirements:
1.   Make a poster that lists five good manners that you want to practice. Share your poster with your den or family.
2.   Introduce two people correctly and politely. Be sure that one of them is an adult.
3.   Write a thank-you note to someone who has given you something or done something nice for you.

Welcome

Welcome to all of our new Cub Scouts.  We have 12 new scouts to add to our pack and are so excited to have them.  You are going to LOVE scouting!

We still need a den leader for our Wolf Den.   If you re interested in being a leader we could really use your help so we do not have any disappointed Cub Scouts.  Please consider this wonderful opportunity to be involved with your son while teaching new skills to young boys.

Our first den meeting is Wednesday, September 14th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.  If you missed the round up it is still not too late.  See you there!

Bobcat Rank Requirements

No matter what age or grade a boy joins Cub Scouting, he must earn his Bobcat badge before he can advance to the rank of Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos. A boy must complete the Bobcat requirements, which include:
  • Learn and say the Cub Scout motto, the Cub Scout Promise, and the Law of the Pack and tell what they mean;
  • Show the Cub Scout sign, salute, and handshake and tell what they mean; and
  • Show that you understand and believe that it is important to be honest and trustworthy.
The detailed requirements for earning the rank of Bobcat are in the front of every Cub Scout handbook.  These requirements are meant to demonstrate that the boy is making a commitment to participating in the scouting program. The goal of Pack 461 is to have all new boys complete the Bobcat Trail by the pack meeting on September 28th.  Completion of the requirements will be confirmed by the scouts' Den Leader.
